Rigid bronchoscopy-guided percutaneous tracheostomy.
We describe a case series of seven patients that demonstrates the usefulness of rigid bronchoscopy in percutaneous tracheostomy. The technique was used in selected patients who had a previous tracheostomy, a difficult airway, high risk of bleeding, or a tracheal stent in place.
متن کاملPercutaneous Tracheostomy without Bronchoscopy a Safe Procedure
Tracheostomy is a common procedure in ICU, particularly as an approach for weaning from mechanical ventilation. In mid-1980s percutaneous tracheostomy (PCT) was introduced as a less invasive alternative for the standard surgical tracheostomy. A tracheostomy facilitates weaning from mechanical ventilation, in long-term ventilated patients, by improving airway cleaning, better patient comfort and...
متن کاملComparing fiberoptic bronchoscopy and a tracheal tube-mounted camera-guided percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy: authors' reply
We thank Xue et al. for their comments [1] regarding our article on the peri-interventional visualization of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) [2]. The authors noted that we did not provide diameters for the endotracheal tubes used in the bronchoscopy group. The endotracheal tubes had an inner diameter of 7.5 mm for female and 8.0 or 8.5 mm for male patients. Therefore, the differenc...

BACKGROUND This is a prospective study of peri-procedure and post-procedure complications and successful weaning of long-term mechanically-ventilated patients following video bronchoscopy-guided percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT). METHODS Video bronchoscopy guided PDT was performed for long-term mechanically-ventilated patients in a medical intensive care unit (ICU). Peri-procedure ...
متن کامل[Rigid bronchoscopy].
Complex airway diseases represent a therapeutic challenge and require multidisciplinary input. Surgery remains the definitive modality. Minimally invasive endobronchial techniques have resulted in symptom control and long-term improvements. The rigid bronchoscope remains the method of choice for the treatment of both benign and malignant central airway obstruction. However, it has limited use i...
